Back in, I think about 1974, my late wife who was an avid sports fan, talked me into taking her and our three kids to a Cleveland Indians game.
During pregame warmup my 7-year-old son was hit in the head by a foul ball. It raised a bump but didn't knock him out so we believed he didn't suffer any serious injury. He and his mother had just changed seats — if they hadn't she would have been hit in the chest.
He is now in his 50s. I asked him recently if he remembers that incident. He replied "like it was yesterday.” So here we are almost 50 years later and the Major Leagues are still pondering installing screening to protect the fans from being hit by a stray ball.
