A semi struck a utility pole Friday and took off before police caught up to the driver in Fitchville.

The truck hit a pole at U.S. 250 and South Norwalk Road, the Norwalk Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Edward N. Grover, 74, of Decatur, Ind., said he was unaware he hit the pole and subsequently pulled down the wires, according to reports.

The Huron County Sheriff’s Office assisted the OSP with pulling Grover’s truck over.

Norwalk Fire and Rescue, ODOT, Ohio Edison and Frontier all were on hand to assist with the clean-up while U.S. 250 was shut down for almost eight hours.

Grover was cited with improper lane usage and failure to maintain control.
