Truckers come home with 7-0 win over Marion Harding

Winning TD scored on pass play

MARION — Shaking off the lethargy which seemed to characterize the scrimmage drill last Tuesday against Freemont St. Joe, the Norwalk High Truckers varsity eleven scored a 7-0 win over a big rugged Marion Harding eleven here last night in a preview session.

The touchdown, a 15-yard pass from quarterback Allen Beach to Dick Heaston in the final quarter, climaxed a drive which began on their own 40-yard line when Marion lost the ball on downs...

...Norwalk’s reserves, piloted by Jim Spalsbury for its two-period encounter, worked smoothly and displayed a fine ground attack and was particularly effective on end sweeps.


St. John’s commencement

St. John’s School of Nursing will hold their commencement exercises on Sunday evening, September 11, in St. John’s Cathedral, Cleveland. The Right Reverend Bishop of the Cleveland diocese will confer the diplomas to the forty graduates. The three young ladies from Norwalk to be graduated are Mary Ann Moeller, Marilyn Myers and Maureen McFadden.


Dinner meeting in Fremont tonight

Members of the Firelands Business and Professional Women’s Club attending the dinner meeting tonight at the Women’s Club in Fremont are: Mesdames Ruth McCrillis, Bernice Terry, Betty Wildman, Rae Preston, Christine Needham, Gertrude Freidly and the Misses Violet Suhr, Harriet Dole and Dee Fox.

First Let. Harry H. Chandler, 24, who recently arrived at Fort Knox, Ky., is now a dentist at the U.S. Army Hospital there. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Burton H. Chandler, 10 Maple St.


Legion to have tent at county fair

The Huron Council of the American Legion will meet at 8 p.m. today at the Liberty Post in Bellevue. It was announced the Council will again sponsor an information tent at the Huron County Fair located near the south entrance and the grandstand.

Charles H. Dunlap, Norwalk, and Jay D. Thomas, New London, are assisting Commander Charles Coultrip, Wakeman, with the arrangements.
