Council opts to continue Biglow maintenance

By ELLEN SIMMONS • Jan 24, 2018 at 2:00 PM

NEW LONDON — At Monday’s New London Council meeting, administrator Shawn Pickworth said discussion with the county commissioners has concluded, and they have agreed to maintain the Biglow Parkway.

When the parkway was constructed, the county approved this arrangement, but recently questions about the matter have been raised.

The decision means the village will still remove snow and keep grass and weeds under control.

In other business, council:

* Agreed with Pickworth’s recommendation to lease the 33.6 acres of village farmland to Chris Clark under a five-year contract. He will pay $93 an acre for the first three years and $94 for the final two.

* Heard John Gerlak, rehabilitation specialist with WSOS Community Action Commission, discuss some of the programs open to homeowners in the county, including home weatherization and home repair. For information, go to the WSOS website or call 419-334-8911 or 1-800-775-9767.

* Heard the Super Raffle, which is sponsored by the Friends of the New London Parks, the Rotary and the CIC, is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 17 in the Hileman Building.
