Huron County retired teachers to meet

By Norwalk Reflector Staff • Dec 9, 2018 at 10:00 AM

The Huron County Retired Teachers Association (HCRTA) will have its December meeting Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Willard.

A social time and registration will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a Memorial Service for Susan Carlisle who taught for 42 years in the Bronson and Norwalk schools.

The group’s business meeting and lunch will be followed by the HCRTA’s annual book fund auction.

Auctioneer for the event will be Gene Shepherd. Proceeds from the auction have traditionally funded the group’s scholarship program designated for aspiring teachers.

Members are reminded to bring an item or two for the auction and be ready to bid on the various items. The HCRTA also collects non-perishables for the local food bank at their meetings.

Officers for the 2018-19 sessions include (with their schools from which they retired) Jim Van Sickle, president (New London); Harriet Parcher, vice-president and program chair (Huron County Board of Education); Nancy Terpening; treasurer (EHOVE); and Sue Loper, secretary (Willard).

Committee chairpersons for 2018 include Joyce Gase, community participation (Willard); Ruth Brown, protective services (Willard); Diane Leonard, legislative (New London); Johanna Beebe, membership (Willard); Linda Shibley, publicity (Monroeville); Mary Jean Hamman, scholarship (South Central); Sherry Williams, memorials (New London); and Kathie Shepherd and Robyn Kelly, reservations (both New London).

Looking ahead, the HCRTA’s March meeting will take place at the Collins United Methodist Church while the May meeting will be held at the Seybert United Methodist Church in Bellevue. The  annual summer outing will take place in June at Port Clinton’s Aviation Museum.
