FINDLAY — The Norwalk boys cross country team placed fourth at the Division I district meet, earning the fourth and final team qualifying spot for next week’s regional championship meet in Tiffin.

The Truckers scored 119 points, which was behind champion Ashland (48), Toledo Whitmer (86) and Bowling Green (106).

Siblings Kyler Kromer and Cobey Kromer again led the Truckers, as they both placed the top 10. Kyler was third overall in 16:14.38, while Cobey was 10th in 16:52.74.

Mitchell Sommers finished 24th in 17:32, while Gabriel Hainline (17:52.2). Rounding out the Norwalk scoring was Samuel Neuberger (18;32.76), Luke Brown (18:40.18) and Wyatt Hale (20:08.61).

“Despite some adversity today, the boys team grabbed the last qualifying spot to regionals next week,” Norwalk coach Drew Karnehm said. “Even on an off day, these guys pull through for each other. I don’t know how they did it, but they pulled it off. They can’t take it for granted, and need to be prepared to compete next week.”

On the girls side, Norwalk’s Kylie Moser continued her impressive postseason, also advancing to the regional next week at Hedges-Boyer Park in Tiffin.

Moser placed 11th in the Div. II girls race in 22:01.83 to advance, as the Truckers placed sixth as a team with 171 points.

Rounding out the Norwalk scoring was Ana Henderson (41st, 25:42.05), Emma Laughlin (43rd, 26:29.32), Alena Arndt (48th, 27:39.56), Kelley Faylor (49th, 28:02.52), Sydney Fox (50th, 28:08.05) and Kallie Arndt (60th, 34:08.63).

“Kylie ran a great race today,” Karnehm said. “As a freshmen, she has really come into her own. Even though the team is done for the season, Kylie will get to carry the flag and represent Norwalk next week at the regional level.”

Moser will run at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, while the Trucker boys team competes at 3 p.m. The top four teams and 16 individuals in the Div. II girls race will advance to the state championships, while the top two teams and eight individuals move on from the Div. I boys race.
