Four area teams advance from Div. III district

GALION — The No. 2-ranked team in Division III looked the part again on Saturday.

The New London boys cross country team scored just 22 points to win the District 1 race held at Amann Park in Galion on Saturday.

Anchored by the 1-2-3 finish of Curtis Joppeck, Tyler Twining and Dominic Albaugh, the Wildcats were 58 points ahead of runners-up Lakota, while St. Paul (81) earned the third and final team qualifying spot to also advance to Saturday’s regional championship meet in Tiffin.

Joppeck won the race in 16:47.4, while Twining finished in 17:02.2 and Albaugh came in at 17:03.1.

Also for New London, Carson Coey was fifth (17:19.2), followed by Mitchell Joppeck (11th, 17:43.3) and Braeden Geist (13th, 17:55.2).

Ian Deeter was the low time for St. Paul, as his 17:21 was good for seventh overall. Zack Stine was 12th (17:45.3), followed by Gavin Ross (15th, 18:07.7), Isaac Thimke (17th, 18:10.4), Nick Centa (30th, 18:48.8), Alex Stine (38th, 19:16.8) and Ryan Gross (48th, 20:31.6).

Plymouth’s Levi Robinson advanced individually, placing eighth in 17:21.8. Ellis Herner was the top Monroeville finisher (20:43.4) in 52nd.

In the District 2 race on Saturday, Western Reserve’s Logan Rogers was the top finisher in 19th place (18:08.9).

The Div. III boys regional race will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Hedges-Boyer Park. The top seven teams and 28 individuals will qualify for the state championships.



New London, Western advance

GALION — In the Div. III District 1 girls race on Saturday, it was also all New London as Kaylin Williams was the overall winer in 19:18.9.

The Wildcats advanced as a team with 47 points, ahead of Bucyrus Wynford (52) and Colonel Crawford (91).

Savannah Shaver was third for New London (20:00.3), while Emily White was 10th (21:50.3). Rounding out the scoring for the ‘Cats was Grace Crawshaw (13th, 22:04.4), Esther Schmidt (20th, 22:46.7), Abigail Good (23rd, 22:49.7) and Zoey Mitchell (37th, 24:09.9).

In the District 2 race, Western Reserve scored 80 points to grab the third and final qualifying spot behind Crestview (66) and Margaretta (72). St. Paul was fourth with 88 points.

St. Paul standout Lily Dowdell was the overall race winner in 19:26.5.

The Western trio of Tabi Pausch (21:34.2), McKenna Woodruff (21:34.9) and Ashlyn Barnhart (21:35.9) placed ninth, 10th and 11th, respectively.

Rounding out the scoring for Western was Aliyah Perez (22nd, 23:03.5), Madison Weiser (30th, 24:03.8), Rachael Olds (43rd, 25:49.7) and Rachel Herbkersman (44th, 26:03.3).

Cheyene Null finished 13th for St. Paul in 21:53.3, while Josalynn Vazquez (24th, 23:15.3), Madelyn McCall (25th, 23:15.9) and Dana Sumpter (28th, 23:39.5) all placed in the top 30.

Monroeville’s top finishers were Rachel Herner (27th, 23:38.1) and Payton Scheid (37th, 25:09.2).

The Div. III girls regional race will start things off at Hedges-Boyer Park at 11 a.m. on Saturday, where the top seven teams and 28 individuals also advance to state.
