Sandusky improved to 19-14 overall and are scheduled to face Wayne County at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Heidelberg's Peaceful Valley Complex.
Cam Farrar (Clyde) jumpstarted the Post 83 offense in the first inning. After Kyle Pelz (SMCC) walked and Gavin Starcher (St. Paul) reached on an error, a wild pitch by Oak Harbor's Ashton Schroeder moved the batters into scoring position. Farrar followed with a two-run single. He later scored when he and Tallen Kennedy (Margaretta), who had walked, perfectly executed a double steal.
As SMCC’s James McClung continued to pitch efficiently and effectively, the Sandusky offense maintained the onslaught.
In the second, Bryson Harvey (Norwalk 2018) walked and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Tyler Walton (Perkins). Everett Samstag (SMCC) followed with a single to make it 4-0. Pelz was hit by a pitch and Starcher roped a single to load the bases for Farrar, who hit into a groundout. But, Samstag scored and Post 83 increased its lead to 5-0.
Sandusky added three more runs in each the fourth and fifth inning. In the fourth, Kennedy and Ethan Prenatt (Bellevue) each registered a RBI single while Farrar scored when Mitchell Dickman balked on the mound.
In the fifth inning, Samstag singled with two outs while Pelz was hit by a pitch again. Starcher laced a run-scoring single before Farrar clocked a double in the gap to score Pelz and Starcher to end the game early.
McClung needed just 59 pitches to surge through the Post 114 lineup twice. He allowed just two hits and walked one, never allowing more than one base runner on at a time. He struck out eight.
Pelz reached base in all four plate appearances, scoring twice. Walton added a double in the third inning while the top four hitters in the lineup each scored twice.
Sandusky faces a Wayne County team it beat in the district championship game last year en route to the state tournament. Wayne County has taken two of three meetings between the clubs this season.
