Three-vehicle fire in Norwalk

NORWALK — Norwalk Police are investigating a fire that took place on North Prospect Street involving multiple vehicles. Sunday evening, shortly after 11, the Norwalk Fire Department responded to what was believed to be a structure fire at 59 N. Prospect St. Fire chief Ron Luttrell said the crews could see the fire from the station when responding. "The call came in as a structure fire. They could see a large amount of fire and a large amount of smoke, so they thought they had a structure fire," he said. "Then they got on scene and found it was the vehicles outside, they were within about 50 feet of the building." Luttrell said three vehicles were on fire and a fourth had heat exposure and damage. The fire did not spread to the building. "Thankfully they got there quickly and got the fire knocked down quickly so that it didn't extend to the building," he said. "We do not know whether that was intentionally set or if it was an accidental fire." The Norwalk Police Department is investigating the fire and Sgt. Seth Fry said the investigation is ongoing and active "It's continued to be under investigation," Luttrell said. "We weren't able to get a hold of the owners of the vehicles. We did not talk to them." Fry said the owners have been contacted and at the time, there is no known motive. He said they do believe the fire was set intentionally.
