YOUNGSTOWN — Cohen Reer, a second grade student at Norwalk Catholic School, won his third consecutive OAC grade school state wrestling championship on Sunday at the Covelli Centre in Youngstown.

Wrestling in the 58-pound weight class, Reer, age 9, won five matches over the two-day tournament en route to his championship.

Reer won by technical fall (15-plus points) in his first two matches, then scored a pin in 47 seconds in the quarterfinals. He added another technical fall victory in the semifinals, then won a 4-0 decision over Semaj Andrews in the championship match.

With his win on Sunday, Reer is a three-time state champion and a four-time state placer at the OACs. He did not allow a point in any of his five wins over the weekend — which he’s also done two straight years.

The son of Zac and Lisa Reer of Norwalk, Reer trains at the Burnett wrestling club in Milan.

Also from NCS, Raphael Gross, Alakai Mack and Amaree Mack also competed at state, while Xander Gfell-King qualified, but was unable to compete because of an injury.
