Frigid weather returns this weekend

• Jan 9, 2018 at 6:00 AM

An early-morning wintry mix on Monday forced authorities in Huron and Erie counties to issue a Level 3 winter weather road condition emergency.

That meant motorists could be ticketed for being on the roads for reasons other than an emergency.

The Level 3, issued in the 4 o’clock hour, was downgraded to a Level 2 just after 7 a.m. Because of freezing rain and black ice, motorists were discouraged from driving unless it was necessary.

Area schools were forced to cancel classes Monday due to the poor driving conditions.

For the first time since Dec. 24, the temperature rose above the freezing mark in Norwalk. Just before 1 p.m. Monday, the high had reached 37.

The weather will gradually get warmer as the week goes on, with a high near 32 today, a high in the mid 40s Wednesday and a high in the mid 50s Thursday. Rain is forecast Wednesday and Thursday.

Then things go the other way. The high on Friday will be 39, the high on Saturday will be in the mid 20s and the high on Sunday will be in the mid to upper teens. The low Saturday night will be in the single digits. Snow is forecast Friday and Saturday.

Today, the sun will rise at 7:55:24 a.m. and set at 5:20:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, the sun will rise at 7:55:09 a.m. and set at 5:21:33 p.m.
