Willard sweeps Edison

MILAN — The Willard volleyball team snapped a four-match skid with Thursday’s sweep of the host Chargers in SBC Bay Division action at Edison High School.

The Crimson Flashes (5-5, 2-0) won by scores of 25-14, 25-17, 25-18.

Cassie Crawford was 32 for 32 hitting with 11 kills and added two blocks and 13 digs. Mckenna Stephens added nine kills, and Alyse Cok had eight kills and was 15 for 16 serving with nine points and three aces.

Also for the Flashes, Lauren Chaffins was 13 for 15 serving with 11 points and two aces and also had six kills. Chloe Weaver had 28 assists and Haylie Hamons added 22 digs.

“What a difference a night makes,” Willard coach Ashley Bond said. “We went out tonight and played with confidence. Our passes were there to give Chloe options and our hitters did their job of finishing it. Our bench was awesome as well, as everyone brought great energy.”

Edison won the JV match in two, 25-23, 25-14.

 

Crestview 3, South Central 0

GREENWICH — The Trojans fell to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the FC with Thursday’s sweep at the hands of the visiting Cougars.

Crestview won by scores of 25-10, 25-23, 25-17.

Taylor Sexton had seven kills, while Whitney McCormack, Lorin Walcher and Claire Osborn each had four kills. Kailee Beaver and Madison Gahring each served seven points with an ace.

Beaver and Walcher each had 14 digs, with Gahring setting 38-of-41 with 11 assists.

 

Bellevue 3, Sandusky 0

BELLEVUE — The Lady Red (7-1, 3-0) dominated visiting Sandusky for another Lake Division win on Thursday, winning 25-6, 25-8, 25-2.

Taylor Baxter had 14 kills, two blocks and six digs, with Molly Bullion serving 31 for 32 with nine aces, while also going 37 for 38 setting with 20 assists.

 

Mapleton 3, New London 0

ORANGE TWP. — The Wildcats fell to 0-6 (0-4 FC) with Thursday’s loss to the Mounties.

Mapleton won with scores of 25-18, 25-14, 28-26.

Kaleigh Logan and Catherine Blaser each had five kills, and Natalie Ferguson added 10 digs. Kaitlyn Ballinger also had 11 assists for New London.

 

Norwalk JH sweeps Port Clinton

PORT CLINTON — The Norwalk seventh and eighth-grade volleyball teams swept their way past Port Clinton on Wednesday.

The seventh grade team won in two (25-9, 25-14).

Mac Wineman was a 100 percent server, while Lucy Schlotterer and Sam Chappell led the team in service points with eight each. CC Clouse and Lucy Schlotterer also led the team in attacks with five kills each.

The eighth-graders won in two as well (25-19, 26-24). Ava Tyler, Adelina Roblero, and Madison Simon were 100 percent servers. Abby Catlett had eight service points. Roblero and Jill Nash led the team defensively, while Roblero also led the team in attacks with 10 kills.

Norwalk hosts Sandusky at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

 

St. Paul junior high wins a pair

NORWALK — The St. Paul seventh-grade volleyball team picked up wins over Edison and Western Reserve on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Lady Flyers beat Edison in three, 17-25, 25-21, 25-22. They then defeated Western on Thursday by scores of 25-16 and 26-24 to improve to 5-0.

The eighth-graders beat Edison in two (25-20, 25-19), and topped Western in two as well (25-14, 25-12) to improve to 3-2 overall.

 

BOYS GOLF

Norwalk 163, Columbian 179

TIFFIN — The Truckers topped the host Tornadoes for another SBC Lake Division win at Mohawk Country Club.

Carter Kluding fired a 37 for Norwalk (6-1 SBC), while Kyle Smith had a 41 and Justin Sommers had a 42. Zach Crane followed with a 43, while Gavin Koelsch had a 45 and Isaac School added a 47.

Norwalk hosts unbeaten Perkins on Monday.

 

Crestview 185, St. Paul 215

ASHLAND — The Flyers fell to 2-4 overall (2-4 FC) with Thursday’s loss to the host Cougars at Brookside Golf Course.

For St. Paul, Jackson Cooke shot a 40, the best round of the season for the Flyers. David Swope added a 54, followed by Nathan Juby (60), Logan Amato (61), Luke Meyer (65) and Dylan Cook (66).

 

Norwalk 156, Clyde 186

NORWALK — The Truckers topped the visiting Fliers with ease on Wednesday for an SBC Lake Division win at Eagle Creek Golf Course.

For Norwalk, Kyle Smith shot a 37 to lead the team. He was followed by Gavin Koelsch (39), Justin Sommers (40), Zach Crane (40), Carter Kluding (44) and Caleb Sommers (44).

 

BOYS SOCCER

Norwalk 6, Clyde 0

NORWALK — The Truckers improved to 4-1-1 overall and 3-0 in the SBC Lake Division with Wednesday’s win over the Fliers at the Norwalk Soccer Complex.

Will Gehlhausen netted another hat trick with three goals for Norwalk, while Brian Morales, Gavin Shutt and Jose Ruiz all scored once each. Austin Obermeyer had three assists while Regan Zieber added one. Tyler Clark made one save in net for his third shutout of the season.

The Norwalk JV team tied Willard, 2-2, on Thursday. Corbin Koelsch and Jakob James scored for the Truckers, with Noah Kluding adding an assists. Ethan Tanzillo recorded seven saves in net.

 

GIRLS GOLF

St. Paul 204, Crestview 252

ASHLAND — The Flyers picked up a road FC win in convincing fashion on Thursday at Brookside Golf Course.

Tori Pocos was medalist with a 49 for St. Paul. She was followed by Sarah Scavuzzo (51), Brooke Bleile (52) and Anna Kaple (52). Sammy Lippert (53) and Alaina Tackas (62) rounded out the scoring.

“Anna had a great round tonight, I’m really impressed with our sophomores they’re improving every day and they’re starting to enjoy the game,” St. Paul coach Tacy Bond said.

 

Edison 182, SMCC 235

OXFORD TWP. — The Chargers had no trouble defeating the host Panthers in an SBC Bay Division match at Woussickett Golf Course.

Jordan Pruitt led Edison with a 38, with Hunter Bawlski adding a 45 and Lauren Neher a 47. Ava Grant had a 52, and Jacqueline Fry had a 63.

 

TENNIS

Willard 5, Huron 0

HURON — Willard (7-3, 4-0) swept the host Tigers in SBC Bay Division play at Fabens Park.

At first singles, Ella Schag defeated Riley Fry (2-6, 6-3, 10-7), while Natalie Van Zoest beat Madisen Stockard (6-1, 6-2) at second singles. Kalli Sowers topped Lauren Walls at third singles (6-2, 6-2).

The No. 1 doubles team of Whitney Robinson and Kennedy Daub beat Riley Roldan and Libby Faflik in a sweep (6-0, 6-0). At second doubles, Becca Slone and Kaleigh Bowers beat Anna Wascovich and Ella Lamb (6-4, 6-4).

Willard has won 31 straight Bay Division matches.

 

Edison 5, Oak Harbor 0

OAK HARBOR — The Chargers improved to 8-2 overall an 5-1 in the Bay Division with Thursday’s sweep of the Rockets.

Jayla Medina swept Grace Johnson at first singles (6-0, 6-0), while Emily Vogus and Alli Vogus dropped just one game between the two of them in wins over Hannah Duquette and Hailey Shiets at second and third singles.

At first doubles, Kaylee Ries and Torri Keyser beat Bailey Lafountain and Viv Kunkle (6-2, 7-5). The No. 2 team of Emily Moore and Lindsey Kowalski beat Ella Dedes and Theresa Roziak (6-2, 6-3).
