There will be about $1 million in bridge and culvert work in Huron County this summer.

Motorists should be aware that roads will be closed to through-traffic with posted detours.

Great Lakes Demolition will handle the $284,000 Butler Road culvert replacement project that is tentatively scheduled to run from Monday through late August. The work will be between U.S. 20 and the Erie County line in Wakeman Township.

“The project was made possible by a grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission,” Huron County Engineer Lee Tansey said.

Another culvert replacement project will be on Peru Olena Road between New State and Old State roads in Bronson Township. County crews will perform the work from mid-June and should last eight weeks.

“That’s a three-sided concrete box,” Tansey said, referring to the culvert.

Crews also will work on multiple culverts on Fitchville River Road between U.S. 250/Ohio 13 and Prospect Road in Fitchville Township.

“This will require various road closures throughout the summer. This is in preparation for an intersection upgrade at Prospect and Fitchville River roads along with two miles of resurfacing from Prospect Road to U.S. 250/(Ohio 13), to begin in the spring of 2020,” Tansey said.

During the summer, crews will replace one bridge and two decks in Fairfield, Hartland and Lyme townships.

A combination of contractors and county personnel will replace the Williams Road bridge north of U.S. 20 in Lyme Township. The start date for the eight-week, $243,000 project hasn’t been determined.

“We did the design in house. … Someone else fabricated the steel for us,” Tansey said.

Starting in mid-June, county crews will replace the bridge deck on New State Road north of North Fairfield. Tansey estimated the $50,000 to $70,000 project will last four weeks.

“We made the concrete beams over the winter,” the engineer added, referring to the three- to four-week process.

In July, county crews will replace the bridge deck on Scranton Road west of Hartland Center Road in Hartland Township. The $50,000 to $70,000 project is expected to last four weeks.

In addition, there will be road reconstruction in Clarksfield, Ridgefield and Wakeman townships.

Erie Blacktop Inc. in Sandusky will handle the $155,000 project to reconstruct Ferry Road west of Chenango Road in Clarksfield Township. Dellinger Excavating Inc. in Monroeville has been awarded the $282,000 contract for Peru Center Road reconstruction north of the Monroeville village. Ott Excavating Ltd. in Norwalk will perform the West River Road work at the Burns Road intersection in Wakeman Township for $292,000.

Also, Melway Paving will resurface DeRussey Road south of Court Road in Hartland Township. The contract was worth $150,000.
