Norwalk track teams advance six and a relay to regionals

FINDLAY — The Norwalk boys and girls track and field team advanced six individuals and one relay team from the Division I district championship meet held at Findlay High School on Wednesday and Friday nights.

On Friday, Norwalk’s Marley Geretz won the girls 300-meter hurdles race in 46.55 seconds. Her teammate, Madison Shutt, advanced in the 100 and 200 dashes, placing third in both events in 12.86 seconds and 26.56 seconds.

Also for the Norwalk girls, Carmen Krichbaum advanced to next week’s regional meet with a fourth-place finish in the discus throw (103-feet-6). Also advancing is the 4x100 relay of Paige Maurer, Sevanna Keegan, Marly Geretz and Mascie Horner, who took fourth in 53.02.

On Friday, Trey Leroux moved on for the Trucker boys, placing second in the shot put throw with a toss of 51-feet-9.25.

On Wednesday, Norwalk pole vaulters Jake Sommers and Owen Rhodes both advanced to next week’s regional. Sommers won the pole vault by clearing the bar at 14-feet-6 inches, while Rhodes was third at 14-feet-3.

Next week’s regional meet will be held at Amherst.

Area athletes advance in Div. II

OAK HARBOR — Bellevue’s Madelyn Verhoff was the lone area individual to claim first place during Day 2 action of Friday’s Div. II district championship meet at Oak Harbor High School.

Verhoff won the 1600 run in 5:27.11 for the Lady Red.

Also advancing on Friday among area girls was Edison’s Abby Lesniak, who took second in the 3200 (11:41.26). Placing third was Willard’s Felicia Rosvanis in the 400 (1:00.39) and Bellevue’s Payton Vogel in the shot put (38-feet-2.5).

Willard’s 4x200 relay of Alyse Cok, Lydia Wiers, Mckenna Stephens and Rosvanis was fourth in 1:49.32.

Among area boys on Friday, Sam Stoll was third in the 110 hurdles (15.68) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (41.60). Also for Edison, Tyler Coon was second in the 3200 (9:50.14).

For Willard, Josh Holida was fourth in the discus throw (152-feet-1).

Bellevue advanced a pair of relays, as the 4x100 of Alex Rogers, Paul Shelley, Mike Pierce and Sal Eaton took fourth in 44.29. The 4x200 of Pierce, Austin Ostrum, Tanner Hundley and Shelley also took fourth (1:32.77).

On Wednesday, Edison’s Joseph Eskra was among six to advance to next week’s Div. II regional meet at Lexington.

Eskra won the pole vault, clearing the bar at 14-feet-7. Also advancing in the event was Bellevue’s Austin Thompson, who was fourth at 13-feet-6.

Also winning a district title on Wednesday was Willard’s Dorian Holida, who won the long jump witha best effort of 22-feet-2.75 inches.

Among the three relay teams to advance Wednesday night was the Edison girls 4x800. The team of Paige Schaefer, Isabel Chasney, Carlie Shover and Abby Lesniak finished in 9:51.64 to place second. Behind them in third place was the Bellevue team of Madelyn Verhoff, Taylor Baxter, Lilli Ray, Taylor Waldecker in 9:56.73.

In the boys 4x800, Edison’s Daniel Lambert, Tyler Coon, Brandon Romell and Gavin Schaeffer placed third in 8:07.57.
