The Truckers were pushed in four of the five positions against the Tornadoes on Thursday, but pulled through for a 4-1 win at the Middle School courts.
With the win, Norwalk improved to 12-1 overall and 7-0 in the SBC.
“This was a really big match for the guys today,” Norwalk coach Chris Higgins said. “Columbian pushed us to our limit at four of five positions.”
At first singles, Austin Brown cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 sweep over Jason Weng. Second singles saw Columbian’s Jacob Weingart top Carson Colahan in three sets, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. Andrew Mozina got the Truckers the win at their singles with a three-set win over Ryan Crocker (6-3, 0-6, 6-4).
At first doubles, Andrew Riley and Wyatt Brown won over Zach Krintzline and Collin Burkett, 6-4, 7-6 (2). The No. 2 team of Sam Vanderpool and Ben Traczek posted a close win over Jacob Beamer and Trey Shuey (6-4, 7-5).
On April 4, the Truckers won a 3-2 match over the Fliers (13-1, 7-1), who are the defending Lake Division champions.
“Now that the second round of Lake Division play has started, we have a huge task on Monday as we take on Clyde at their place,” Higgins said. “The first match between the teams was a classic."
Plymouth 8, South Central 3
PLYMOUTH — The Big Red overcame seven errors in the field to score seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings of Thursday’s Firelands Conference win over the Trojans (5-11, 3-4).
For Plymouth (12-3, 4-2), Ariel Plank was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, while Tristen Wiley added two hits, and Kelsey Blankenship had two hits and an RBI.
Emily Akers doubled and drove in two runs, while Shilo Plank singled and added two RBIs for the Big Red.
In the circle, Mallory Miller allowed three unearned runs on five hits with nine strikeouts and two walks.
Kailee Beaver and Madison Carney each had two hits for South Central, while Madison Allen added a single and an RBI. Carney also drove in a run.

ORANGE TWP. — Two six-run innings led the Eagles to another FC win on Thursday over the host Mounties.
Carley Helmstetter did it all for Monroeville, which improved to 12-1 overall and 7-0 in the FC. She was 2 for 5 with a double, a triple and three RBIs at the plate, then pitched six innings for the win. Helmstetter struck out six and walked one, allowing two earned runs on five hits.
Also for the Eagles, Skiler Hershiser was 3 for 5 with a double and three RBIs. Callie Rosser was 3 for 4 with an RBI, while Adelynn Kradlak was 2 for 4 and Sydney Meisler singled and drove in three runs. Lydia Landoll added three RBIs.

HURON — The Chargers scored 15 runs on 16 hits in Thursday’s SBC Bay Division win over the host Tigers.
For Edison (11-4, 3-3), Hannah Vitaz had a huge day at the plate. She was 4 for 4 with two doubles, a home run and five RBIs. Jessica Stoll was 2 for 4 with a double, a home run and an RBI, while Morgan Scott was 2 for 4 with three RBIs and Deana Blatnik was 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
Also for Edison, Kira Appeman pitched five innings of relief for the win. She allowed two unearned runs on three hits with two strikeouts and no walks. Appeman also added a double and two RBIs, and Kayla Mancuso had two singles and an RBI.
