Willard tennis sweeps a pair at SMCC

SANDUSKY — The Crimson Flashes swept their way past SMCC in an SBC Bay division doubleheader on Wednesday to improve to 11-1 overall and 9-0 in the SBC.

In the first win considered the home match for SMCC, Emma Moll topped Sara Bias at first singles (6-3, 6-2). Carlee Gibson beat Natalie Vargas (6-0, 6-1) at No. 2 singles, with Natalie Van Zoest winning for Willard at third singles (6-2, 6-2).

At first doubles, Addie Slone and Jo Brubaker beat Madison Shenigo and Kate Milke in a sweep (6-0, 6-0), while the No. 2 team of Tori Barnett and Whitney Robinson won over Hallie Zoernera and Julia Bahnsen (6-2, 6-1).

In the ‘home’ match for Willard, the Flashes dropped just one game in the three singles positions — and only six games total across the five matches.

Carlee Gibson beat Julie Lockfleult, 6-1, 6-0. Both Addy Paxton and Ella Schag swept (6-0, 6-0) at second and third singles.

The first doubles team of Robinson and Kennedy Daub won (6-4, 6-1), while Becca Slone and Kalli Sowers won in a sweep at second doubles (6-0, 6-0).

Willard will host Tiffin Calvert today.

Edison 5, Tiffin Calvert 0

MILAN — The Chargers (10-2, 8-1) stayed one back in the loss column of Willard with a sweep over visiting Tiffin Calvert on Wednesday.

At first singles, Mariah Medina beat Devyn Warnament (6-1, 6-0) at first singles, with Jayla Medina beating Bri Coleman (6-2, 6-1) at No. 2 singles. Emily Vogus swept Maria Welter at third singles (6-0, 6-0).

The No. 1 doubles team of Lexi Weyer and Kaylee Ries swept Hanna Welter and Kara Brodman (6-0, 6-0). Torri Keyser and Emily Moore won by default at second doubles.

Edison 5, St. Mary C.C. 0

MILAN — The Chargers also swept in Tuesday's win over SMCC.

Mariah Medina won at first singles for Edison, topping Sara Bias (6-1, 6-0). At second singles, Jayla Medina swept Natalie Vargas (6-0, 6-0), while Vogus did the same to Mal Parish at third singles (6-0, 6-0).

The No. 1 doubles team of Ries and Keyser swept Madison Shenigo and Kate Milkie (6-0, 6-0).

At second doubles, Weyer and Moore beat Hailey Bahnsen and Julia Leffler (6-1, 6-1).

GIRLS GOLF

Perkins 214, Norwalk 214

NORWALK — The host Norwalk girls golf team lost on the sixth tie-breaker score in Wednesday’s tightly-contested SBC Lake division match vs. Perkins at Eagle Creek.

For Norwalk (5-3 Lake), Noelle Jackson shot a 52 to pace the team. She was followed by Hannah Dumbeck (53), Carmen Krichbaum (54), Anna Little (55), Emily Berry (62) and Chloe Thomas (64).

Norwalk hosts Port Clinton at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

BOYS GOLF

New London 169, Mapleton 251

NEW LONDON — The New London boys golf team cruised past Mapleton on Wednesday at Millstone Hills to improve to 11-0 overall and 5-0 in the Firelands Conference

For the Wildcats, Ben Crawshaw was match medalist with a 34. Sean Armold added a 41, while Jaylin Moffit had a 43. Also for New London, Sean Andolsek had a 51, followed by Dax Amburgy (61) and Caileigh Kropka (67).

New London travels to Thunderbird Hills today to play Western Reserve.

Edison 187, Huron 194

HURON — The Chargers improved to 3-7 overall with Wednesday’s win over the Tigers at Thunderbird South.

Casey Fair was match medalist with a 40 for the Chargers. He was followed by Aden Hall (43), Noah Pulaski (47), Conner Betts (57) and Matthew Pounds (59).
