The trio had earned placement matches at Saturday’s Div. I sectional at Fremont Ross with a pair of wins last Thursday.
In Saturday’s singles consolation final, Berry fell in two sets (6-3, 6-4) to Oregon Clay’s Tori Gallaher to finish fourth.
Miller and Gran posted a victory in the doubles consolation final, beating Ashland’s Gabrielle Bouquet and Elyse Laps in a lengthy three-set match, 4-6, 6-0, 7-6 (4).
The Div. I district will be held Thursday.
Two Willard doubles teams; Edison’s Medina advance
SHELBY — Edison singles standout Mariah Medina and two Willard doubles teams advanced on from the Division II sectionals over the weekend at Shelby High School.
Medina opened with three straight wins, a sweep (6-0, 6-0) and a pair of 6-1, 6-1 wins to reach the semifinal round, where she fell to Lexington standout and eventual champion Sylvia Goldsmith. In the third-place match, Medina fell to yet another standout from powerhouse Lex, Katie Voltz, in a tight three-set result (4-6, 6-3, 6-3) to place fourth.
Meanwhile, the Flashes’ Jo Brubaker and Kennedy Daub reached the sectional title match on Saturday, falling to a Lexington doubles team in two sets (6-2, 6-2). The pair opened with a bye, then posted straight set wins of 6-1, 6-0, followed by 7-5, 6-0, and 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinal round.
Willard’s doubles team of Emma Moll and Addison Paxton was third. After a bye, the pair opened with two straight wins by identical scores of 6-2, 6-1 win. The two were then swept in the semis by the eventual champs from Lexington, but rebounded with a 6-4, 6-0 win in the third-place match.
The Div. II district will be held Wednesday at BGSU.
Huron 1, Norwalk 0
At Huron, the Tigers edged Norwalk in a Sandusky Bay Conference crossover game Saturday.
Erich Taubennestler scored Huron's (10-2-1) lone goal off an assist from Drew Mamere.
Norwalk 3, Vermilion 0
The host Truckers swept past visiting Vermilion in an SBC crossover match on Saturday, winning by scores of 25-22, 25-22, 25-15.
For Norwalk (13-6), Aimee Smith was 17-of-21 hitting with 12 kills, and Carly Bilton was 22-of-28 with 10 kills. Mya Neuberger added eight kills and Olivia Ward had seven kills and seven digs. Alaina Kelley was 16 for 17 serving with three aces and was 86-of-86 setting with 35 assists.
Also for Norwalk, which hosts Sandusky on Tuesday for an opportunity to win the SBC Lake division outright, Anne Davidson had 20 digs and Lindsey Koenig had seven.
Norwalk freshman beat Sandusky
The Norwalk freshmen football team beat Sandusky for the second time this season by a score of 19-6.
Andrew Mozina, Garrett Chapin and Ethan Phillips scored touchdowns. The defense was led by the efforts from Fabian Negrete, Alex Roblero, Jakob Stebel and others.
The team is 6-1 and will host Perkins next Saturday.
The Norwalk Middle School Cross Country competed in the Fremont Middle School Invitational on Thursday.
The boys team was runners-up in the competition by four points in a field of 10 teams. Leading the way for Norwalk was race winner Kyler Kromer (11:15), Xavier Sweet (12:32), Astchin Petersen (12:35), Luke Brown (13:20) and Corbin Koelsch.
Norwalk’s girls placed third out of 11 teams. Leading the way was Kylie Moser (13:30), Shyanne Moser (14:09), Lana Oglesby (14:25), Abby Hart (14:48), Harmoni Segee (15:38) and Megan Olsen (15:38.5).
Norwalk's next meet will be the SBC championships Saturday at Hedges-Boyer Park in Tiffin.
Clear Fork 3, Norwalk 0
Host Norwalk (11-4) lost a hard-fought non-conference match to Clear Fork (12-3) Thursday night by a score of 3-0.
The score was 0-0 at halftime and it was a 1-0 deficit until late in the second half.
Sydney Castle finished with 15 saves, while the The defense was led by Mara Jaworski, Quinn Jaworski, Ashten Morrow and Kayla Cring.
Norwalk hosts Mansfield Senior at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the regular season finale.
