The Norwalk girls’ tennis team started off the new year the right way — a 5-0 win over Ontario.

“The Lady Truckers started off the season exactly the way they wanted — with a solid victory,” Norwalk coach Chris Higgins said. “The early season win was especially special for Megan Berry and Jordan Gran as it is their first career varsity win.”

Megan Berry, a freshman at third singles, defeated Eve Dunn 6-1, 6-0.

Gran, who is teamed with Anessa Berry at second doubles, blanked Lady Warriors Jady Saylors and Lizzie Burson, 6-0, 6-0.

At first singles, Kaitlyn Stoll picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

Brooke Fries won the second doubles match 6-2, 6-1.

Raeanna Ramos and Mya Rey took care of first singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win.

“Kaitlyn was able to sprinkle the ball around the court a lot today. Brooke made the right adjustments leading toward a dominant second set. Megan played extremely solid in her high school tennis debut. Mya and Raeanna were able to win most of the long rallies today. Anessa and Jordan were dominant throughout,” Higgins added.

The Lady Truckers will return to action on Tuesday when they host Port Clinton.

“With next week being the first full official week of matches, we look to use the momentum of this match to start the season off with a great week.”
