Plymouth falls short in regional final

KENT - Plymouth scored first, Hillsdale last.

The Falcons recorded a 3-2, eight-inning walk-off win over the the Lady Red to win the Division IV regional softball final at Kent State University Saturday.

Plymouth ended the season at 22-5, while Hillsdale (24-3) advanced to the state tournament.

In the bottom of the eighth, Timber Stoops led off with a single down the left-field line. She moved up two bases on two errors.

Then, Shelbi Long stepped up to the plate. On a third strike, Plymouth catcher Katie Budget dropped the ball. On her throw to first, Stoops sprinted for home and touched the base for the game-winning run.

Plymouth started strong with two runs in the top of the first.

Mallory Miller led off with a single. Janet Arnold's bunt moved Miller to second

After a strike out, Callie Jones belted a double to deep left, plating Miller.

Morgan Chaffins followed with a double to left-center for the second run.

Hillsdale countered with a run in the home half of the first on an inside-the-park him run to right by leadoff hitter Adrianna Rogers.

Hillsdale tied the game at 2-2 with a run in the fourth.

Shelbi Long posted an infield single.

After two outs, Sydney Long hit a shot to left. Paige Manuel tried to make a diving catch, but the ball skipped past her and Shelbi Long scored.

In her final game at Plymouth, pitcher Addyson Horne allowed nine hits with 12 strikeouts.

Sydney Long earned the win. She gave up just one hit after the first inning, that a single by Chaffins in the fourth.
