St. Paul hands Monroeville first FC loss

MONROEVILLE - St. Paul busted out after the first two innings and went on for a 13-2 Firelands Conference softball win Monday.

Lydia Gillen picked up the pitching win, striking out and walking one.

At the plate, Alex Carper went 2-of-4 with two RBI, two runs and a stolen base.

Lexie Sigsworth and Elyse Roth posted two hits each.

Sigsworth singled, doubled, scored three runs and drove in three. Roth singled, tripled, scored a run and gained three RBI.

Lindsey Llewellyn, Kaity Tomshack and Taylor Rupp all contributed one hit and Jamie Fritz checked in with a run and RBI.

The Lady Flyers tallied their runs from the third to sixth innings.

“Lydia Gillen pitched really well throwing a lot of ground outs,’’ coach Dan Conney said. ’’The defense across the board really stepped up.  The girls put it all together both in the batters box and on the diamond. I'm proud of their effort and focus.”

Carley Helmstetter took the pitching loss. She gave up eight hits and eight walks.

At the plate, she went 1-of-3 with an RBI double.

Paige Schafer had two hits, while Hannah Laney, Morganne Stanley and Jessica Hayes added one each.

“I give all the credit to St Paul,’’ Lady Eagles coach Abe Helmstetter said. ”Dan Conney and his staff had them ready to play. Alex Carper had a heck of a game in the field and at the plate. Lydia pitched a nice game against us and kept our offense in check.'’

The two teams are scheduled to play again today at the VFW Fields in Norwalk.

Western breaks game open in win

NANKIN - Western Reserve broke open a close game with nine runs in the top of the seventh inning, en route to a 13-3 FC win.

Emmalee Cooke reached three times on a single, a walk, and a fielder's choice.

She stole two bases and scored twice.

Riley slammed wo triples, a double, and a single with one RBI, a stolen base and three runs scored.

Caylee Baker hit two singles, walked, reached on a fielder's choice in posted three RBI and a run scored.

Also contributing to the Western attack were Morgan Boswell with an RBI single and walk; Taylor Good single and sacrifice fly; Emma Blankenship two walks and two runs; Emma Jennings reached base on  two fielder's choices and one run; Courtney Grine singled, reached on a fielder's choice and scored a run with and two; RBI Liz Sobek single and hit by pitch twice, stole a base and scored twice.

Plymouth doubles up Crestview

PLYMOUTH - Plymouth earned a hard-fought 4-2 FC win over Crestview Monday.

The Lady Red tallied three runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Haven Keene went 2-of-2, including a double, with two runs and one RBI.

Katie Bushey, Morgan Chaffins, Romy Thornsberry and Leslie Mack chipped in with one hit each.

Bushey and Chaffins each recorded doubles.

Addyson Horne wetn all seven innings for the win. She allowed two unearned runs on two hits with eight strikeouts.

The teams are slated to play at Crestview today.
