Village buys land next to city hall

NEW LONDON — New London Administrator Shawn Pickworth told council Monday the village was able to purchase property next to village hall.

Council bought the 117 East Main St. property at the County Auditor’s Auction for $6,682.50 because it adjoins the village hall property on the east. The house will be demolished.

The village’s lift station for the sewer project linking the two parks also is in operation, and Pickworth thanked the Ott brothers, Firelands Electric, Stu Cooke and the village workers for their efforts on this project.

Council OKd Pickworth’s request to apply for CDBG funding for street repair and a Critical Infrastructure Grant, also to be used for streets.

In other business, council heard:

* Spring cleanup is April 23 to 27 and dumpsters are available at the city garage all month. Visit www.newlondonohio.com or call the village office for information.

* Police Chief Mike Marko showed council the new patches his department will be wearing and announced Jacob Johnson is the new school resource officer. He has been serving as a reserve officer and will work three days a week, with the school paying his salary.

* The mayor introduced Jennifer Ball, who will fill the seat vacated by Neil Winslow. She will be installed May 14.
