Dewey Robert Kerr Jr.

SANDUSKY — Dewey Robert Kerr Jr., 72, Sandusky, passed away Sunday afternoon, Oct. 6, 2019, in Ohio Veteran's Home.

He was born Oct. 5, 1947, in Norwalk, to Dewey Robert Sr. and Lucille (Gfell) Kerr.

Dewey graduated from Norwalk High School in 1965 and lived in the area all his life. He received his Associate of Arts Social & Behavioral Science from Terra State Community College in 2001.

Dewey was an Engineman 3rd Class in the U.S. Navy, serving in Vietnam with Amphibious Assault Squadron 5, aboard the USS Calvert APA-32. He worked as a millwright for the Tenneco Corporation (Clevite, Gould) in Milan for 37 years before retiring in 2010.

He was a lifetime member of the Sandusky Post VFW 2529, AMVETS, DAV Post 16 and the NRA. Dewey was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan and enjoyed photography, traveling, doing global volunteering, being in the outdoors and around Lake Erie, hiking, being in nature and spending time with his family and friends.

Dewey is survived by daughters, Jennifer (Joe) Oliver of Ashland and Lisa (Jim) Kerr of Frederick, Md.; grandchildren, Colton and Audrey Oliver and Ava Cherry.

In addition to his parents, Dewey was preceded in death by his daughter, Allison Kerr; and sister, Susan Jagel.

A Celebration of Life will be 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at AMVETS Post 17, 307 Putnam St., Sandusky. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
