Gerald Schug Meyers

NORTH FORT MYERS, FLA. — Gerald Schug Meyers of North Fort Myers, Florida, more commonly known to his friends as “Jerry,” passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 following some recent health challenges. He was 81 years old.

Jerry was born on September 10, 1937 in Milan, Ohio, the proud son of Edna H. (Schug) and Andrew E. Meyers. He proudly served his country from 1956-1958 as a soldier in the United States Army. Upon his return from military service, Jerry enjoyed a long and successful career in the automotive industry. He was also a longtime Volunteer Firefighter for the Milan Fire Department where he served in a variety of incident-response, support and administrative roles. Later on, Jerry also worked at several retirement communities in a management capacity. He was admired as a co-worker, respected as a boss and appreciated for his attention to detail.

Jerry leaves to cherish his memory wife Jeanine (Lorcher) Williams Meyers; sons Jeff Meyers (Scharleen) and Scott Meyers (Rose Ann); step-daughters Lisa Knallay and Mary Kuhl; step-son Peter Williams; granddaughter Sydney Meyers; step grandson Steven Winn; 8 step-grandchildren; 2 step great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister Janis MacMurray; several nieces and nephews; a number of extended family members and a great multitude of others who knew Jerry and was happy to call him a friend. Sadly, he was preceded in death by his first wife Marie Meyers; his parents Andrew and Edna; sisters Joan Smith and Virginia Missler and brothers Clayton Meyers and Richard Meyers.

Immediate funeral ceremonies are private. Arrangements for Jerry’s final care have been entrusted to Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Cremation rites will be accorded and Jerry will thereafter be laid to rest alongside his first wife Marie inside the Cremation Garden located in the Sylvan Terrace Section of Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555.
