She was born July 5, 1932, in Norwalk, Ohio, to the late Henry and Ella (Aust) Heckelman, and was a lifelong area resident. Jo Ann was a 1951 graduate of Norwalk High School, and was a member of the Norwalk First United Methodist Church.
She was a former employee of Norwalk Truck Line prior to raising her family. Jo Ann had an artistic talent that she shared with her family and closest friends.
She enjoyed painting bird houses with her signature cat hidden in the design, and drawing. Jo Ann had a treasured collection of dress designs that she drew and kept for personal enjoyment, and often rescued a stray cat that needed a home.
She is survived by her sons and daughters in law, Gary R. and Sandra Flew of Norwalk, Ohio, and Russell J. and Kathi Flew of Norwalk, Ohio, by her grandchildren, Dylan R. Flew who passed away in 2006, Seth R. Flew, and Cody A. Flew, by 3 great grandchildren, Samantha, Marshall, and Cole, and one great grand daughter soon to be born, and by 5 nieces. Jo Ann is also survived by her brother, Thomas R. Heckleman of Norwalk, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard V. Flew in 2004, by her brother, Theodore H. Heckelman in 2009, and by an infant sister, Edith L. Heckelman in 1925.
Friends may call on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 noon in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Dr. Brian Oglesbee will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
