Deacon James Arthur Young

MILAN — Deacon James A. “Jim” Young, 89, of Milan, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 6, 2017 at Mercy New Life Hospice in Lorain.

Jim was born on August 12, 1928 in Florence, Ohio to the late William and Goldie (Lint) Young.

Jim was ordained a deacon in the Catholic Church in August of 1981 and served at St. Anthony’s Parish in Milan. He was a machine repairman for 24 years at Van Dresser and worked for 20 years at Wal Mart in Norwalk. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed gardening, especially dahlias, traveling, listening to blue grass music, being a ham radio operator and bringing joy to people via stories and jokes. He was also passionate about Habitat for Humanity and Catholic Mission Causes.

Jim is survived by 4 daughters, Peggy (John) Switzer of Indiana, Sharon (Terry) Stutzman of Michigan, Rita Dauch of Texas and Alice Young of Vermilion; 3 sons, John (Ruth) Young of Mansfield, Neil (Anna) Young of Montana and Leo (Sue Flynn) Young of Arizona; sister-in-law, Cora Young of Elyria; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.

In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Florence B. (Achenheil) Young, whom he married on June 28, 1947 in Brooklyn, New York; son, James E. Young; daughter, Patricia Young; grandson, Jason Young; and brother, William Young.

Friends and family may call on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 9:30 am until 11:30 am at Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1 S Main St, Milan, Ohio 44846. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 11:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 pm at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 145 South Center Street, Milan, Ohio 44846. Reverend Monsignor Marvin Borger will be presiding over the services. Burial will follow at a later date.
