WAKEMAN — On Friday, September 8, 2017, Boyd Martin, 74, of Wakeman, Ohio took his final checkered flag in Saint James City, Florida.
He was a 1961 graduate of Western Reserve High School and worked for Buckeye Pipeline Company in Wakeman for 37 years before retiring in 2001 to become a snowbird. He spent his time fishing on both Lake Erie and in the Gulf of Mexico before becoming a permanent resident of Florida in recent years. Boyd had hometown pride and love for the Roughriders, looking back fondly on his days playing football, basketball and running track. He raced at Sandusky Speedway for many years, and he is a member of its Hall of Fame. Even at age 74, he still had the need for speed!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Maude Martin, and is survived by his children, Tark and Shayla Martin, siblings Gaylord Martin, Gaylene Snell, Juanita Wensink and Dalee Abraham, grandchildren and extended family. Boyd’s family is especially grateful to his many friends and neighbors who were like family to him. In lieu of memorial donations or flowers, please raise a glass in honor of Boyd, share a story and have a laugh with a friend. A memorial will be held in his honor in the summer of 2018.
