NORWALK — Helen M. Hintz, 72, of Norwalk went to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Gaymont Nursing Home following a brief illness.
Born September 14, 1944 to Harry and Madelyn (Reitzel) Hintz, Helen graduated from Norwalk High School in 1962 and lived here all her life. She loved growing up on the family farm and talked often of helping her mother in the kitchen, collecting eggs from the chicken coop, and watching her father harvest. Helen had a loud and infectious laugh, and loved to tease and joke with the preschool children that often visited her office during her time as church secretary at St. Peter Lutheran Church, where she was a lifelong member. On weekends, she enjoyed playing any and all card games with her extended family. Helen also enjoyed playing poker with her friends, visiting casinos, and was once the proud owner of a race horse; each May you could find her in Louisville with a hat on her head and a mint julep in her hand. Prior to her employment with St. Peter, Helen worked for Homan’s Jewelers in Uptown Norwalk from her senior year of high school until their closure. She served as a ROY volunteer and mentor and gave generously to the Humane Society and other animal rights organizations. She was a wonderful aunt to her many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, attending their birthday celebrations, holiday parties, school programs, and sporting events.
Helen is survived by her brother Richard (Candace) Hintz of Defiance, MO; sisters-in-law Sandra Hintz of Ithaca, NY and Alexis (Darrell) Moll of Monroeville; aunt Irene Reitzel of Norwalk; nieces Amy Eiden, Kimberly Hintz, Allison Mittendorf, Jenicka Reamer, and Holly Bauer; nephews Christopher Hintz, Nicholas Hintz, Zachary Moll, and Cole Hintz and fifteen great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded into death by her parents and two brothers, Harold “Skip” Hintz and Steven Hintz.
There will be no calling hours. A celebration of life luncheon will be held at one o’clock on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at 16 West Main St., Norwalk. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church, 243 Benedict Avenue, Norwalk, OH 44857 or the Huron County Humane Society, 246 Woodlawn Avenue, Norwalk, OH 44857. Arrangements entrusted to the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk.
