Joan Slocum

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. — Joan Slocum, 84, of Summerville, South Carolina, and formerly of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017 in Summerville.

She was born December 5, 1932 in Vickery, Ohio, to the late Howard R. and Myrtle L. (Heishman) Martin, and lived in the Norwalk, Ohio, area most of her life. Joan was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Norwalk, Ohio. She graduated from the Fremont Beauty School, and was a member of Firelands Post #2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Joan was the former owner and manager of Adobe Beauty Salon and Adam & Eve Beauty Salon. She enjoyed quilting, macramé and embroidery. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Joan is survived by her husband of 66 years, Frank Slocum of Summerville, South Carolina, by her children, Tim and Robin Slocum of Summerville, South Carolina, and Mark and Mary Crumrine of Milan, Ohio, by 5 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and two step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Judy C. Sweet in 1998, by her brother, Rolland R. Martin, and by her sisters, Lucille Thurston, and Esther Hackenberg.

Friends may call on Monday, March 20, 2017 from 3 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Friends may also call on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter Lutheran Church, 243 Benedict Avenue, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Ann Marshall will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
