BELLEVUE — A new Bellevue group working to help people in recovery will host its first major fundraising event today.

The group, Bellevue Recovery And Support Services (BRASS), hopes to move into a location that will provide an office and meeting space in April.

The BRASS fundraising dinner, “Farm to Table,” will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bierkeller Pub & Restaurant, 600 Southwest St., Bellevue. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

Tickets must be purchased in advance and cost $50 at BellevueRecovery.org or the Bellevue Area Chamber of Commerce, 110 W. Main St.

“Farm to Table” will have lots of appetizers, slow roasted beef, pasta with Bolognese sauce, roasted chicken, BBQ ribs, chili, mashed potatoes & gravy, veggies, desserts and gluten-free swiss rolls. There will also be a salad and beverages. There will be silent auctions.

“It’s the first major fundraiser we have set up,” said Lavin Schwan, one of the founders of the group. “It’s going to be an annual event.”

“We are also applying for grants and looking for funding from other sources as well,” she said.

The Bellevue group will soon have a physical location. It will be at the Bellevue Hospital campus at 1400 W. Main St., Building One, Suite D.

A clinic that’s located there now will soon move out, clearing the way for the location to be renovated for BRASS, Schwan said.

“There’s not a whole lot we have to do. It’s a beautiful office,” she said.

But a wall will be knocked out to provide space for support groups to meet. Monroeville contractor Janotta & Herner is donating time and labor to help the group, Schwan said. The space likely will be ready for the group to move in by late April, she said.

Lavin and Tom Schwan who lost their son, Joey, to the opioid crisis. The couple traveled around the state presenting Joey's Story to students and community groups and helped form the Bellevue group.
