The Huron County Safe Communities Coalition will meet Thursday to discuss the possibility of a roundabout at the intersection of U.S. 20 and Ohio 601.
Ohio 601 has been a troubled road over the years with numerous accidents at Ohio 18, U.S. 20 and Ohio 61.
The worst have come at U.S. 20.
“In 2018, the intersection of U.S. 20 and Ohio 601 was brought to the coalition's attention as an intersection of concern for Huron County,” according to a press release from Huron County Public Health. “In recent years, there have been many accidents at this intersection, including two crashes that resulted in fatalities. In June 2018, a safety analysis of the intersection and possible safety counter-measures were presented to the coalition by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). After reviewing the analysis, the Huron County Safe Communities Coalition has chosen to explore a roundabout as a possible counter-measure to improve traffic safety in this area.”
The meeting will be held from 9:45 to 11:45 a.m. Thursday at the Huron County Administrative Building, 180 Milan Ave., Meeting Room A.
In attendance will be members of the Huron County Safe Communities Coalition and representatives from the Ohio Department of Transportation. The public is welcome.
The Huron County Safe Communities Coalition plans to livestream the meeting on its Facebook page @HuronCoSafeCommunities for those who are not able to attend in person. The recording also will be made available after the event.
