Immigration rally today in Norwalk

• Jun 11, 2018 at 2:50 PM

An immigration rally is planned for 3 p.m. today at Suhr Park, 35 W. Main St., Norwalk.

A post for the page for the Facebook Live event states this: "Last week, several communities in Northeast Ohio were torn apart as 114 non violent undocumented immigrants were rounded up and detained. Children were left in day care and at school with no plan for their well-being. Our instincts may lead us to assign blame. It’s the parents fault. It’s the employers fault. It’s the individuals fault for coming here illegally. It’s the traffickers fault. There’s a lot of blame to go around, but one thing is clear: our immigration system is broken. It doesn’t serve our communities. It doesn’t serve our businesses. And it definitely doesn’t serve the millions of American citizens who have family and friends who are undocumented. This is not the way it has to be. Congress has the power to change our immigration laws so that they serve us. Change does not happen unless we make it happen."

Speakers at today’s event in Norwalk will include:

• Natalia Alonso, Los Niños de Corsos, Fremont

• Lynn Tramonte, Deputy Director, America's Voice

• Samuel Prince, Oberlin Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

• The Rev. Lenore Kure, Center for Peace and Understanding, Sandusky

• The Rev. Vince Petersen, Tiffin Area Pax Christi

• Herman Robinson, Interdenominational Ministries Association (IMA)

• Angel Arroyo, Lorain City Council member

• Sharon Sweda, state Senate candidate

• Janet Garrett, U.S. Congress candidate
