The Huron County Second Chance K-9s is a group of volunteers and concerned citizens whose focus is to improve the life of shelter animals and help them get adopted as quickly as possible.
Its mission consists of raising awareness in the community, fundraising and networking animals in local pounds. The long-term goal is to assist in raising enough funds to build a new dog pound complete with outside access for the dogs at the shelter. The building the dogs currently are housed in is more than 100 years old and is not conducive to renovations.
The female pit mix in the photo is available for adoption along with several other dogs. The Huron County Pound recently has expanded hours to include weekends. The pound is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
