Storms sweep through area, leaving some without electricity

• Updated Mar 1, 2017 at 10:36 PM

Firelands Electric reports strong storms swept through the cooperative’s service territory early this morning.

Damaging winds penetrated trees and power lines, which caused scattered outages for less than 180 electric member-consumers in Ashland and Huron counties.

As of 8:30 a.m., Firelands Electric’s line crews were able to assess the damage and restore power, with less than 20 individual outages remaining on the cooperative’s system. Crews have reported heavy line damage in the Shiloh area, which will result in about 14 member-consumers to be without power until early afternoon.

Customers are asked to notify Firelands Electric of any down power lines within the cooperative’s service territory by contacting 1-800-533-8658. Outage updates are available at Firelands Electric’s website, www.FirelandsEC.com, Facebook page and Twitter feed.

Firelands Electric, a Touchstone Energy partner, is a member-owned, not-for-profit electric cooperative providing electric service to about 9,000 homes and businesses in rural areas of Ashland, Huron, Lorain and Richland counties.
