We need to respect our wild animals

• Jul 18, 2018 at 10:05 AM

NOTE: The following letter was submitted by Marilyn Evenson of Vermilion:

I am against the cruelty of hunting and trapping, so I try to avoid Dick Martin's column "Firelands Outdoor Notebook" in the Norwalk Reflector. Yet he was spot-on Saturday, July 7, with his article about "Animals Can be Dangerous.”

How true every word was regarding wild animals — basically to respect them, but stay your distance. After all, they are wild.

May I add they should not be in captivity in our homes or yards, or a circus, or a second-rate roadside zoo. Elephants, tigers, lions, bears, snakes, monkeys, reptiles, orcas and dolphins are not here for our entertainment. Mother Nature intended exotic animals to remain wild in their own habitat. None should be trophy hunted. One terrible fact is that there are more tigers in captivity than there are in the wild. Thanks to Dick Martin for this article.
