And these children that you spit on as they try to change their worlds are immune to your consultations; they’re quite aware of what they’re going through…”Changes” by David Bowie
My wife and I along with another friend from outside of Huron County attended Norwalk’s March For Our Lives event on March 24. My sister Kirsten Smith and several family members proudly attended the Columbus same event. Contrary to the falsehoods and fallacies given by an NRA guy in a Norwalk Reflector interview/advertisement, Norwalk High School students organized this and ran the whole event. They certainly weren’t anyone’s puppets as he claims. The passions of these youths were very real, evident to all who came to listen, but obviously not to the few who sought to disrupt their speeches. Thank you for your courage young people!
I really don’t see what the big controversy is about their mission. The one certainty of their cause is they are screaming this out to us: Don’t let me be killed within the confines of my high school.
The discussion does need to be about guns, specifically the AR 15 assault rifle, the weapon of choice by mass killers from Columbine to Parkland. This is an armament of warfare and it has no place outside of its military capabilities. If we follow the money trail we can see how it came to be available to civilians. In order, it goes from gun manufacturers to the NRA to politicians and we are all aware that these NRA grade A representatives by and large are Republicans. No secret there.
Well, our nations high school seniors will be old enough to vote this November or even this spring in the primaries. They and their friends have started a movement to stop the killings. They are calling out our federal officials who are supported by and who support the NRA dictating public policy. They are speaking truth to violence. I believe their resolve is not fleeting. When they go to the polls and vote this year they will make a difference. If your campaigns are being supported by the NRA, they and I intend to vote you out.
