The University of Akron student pleaded guilty under an agreement with prosecutors Oct. 23 to involuntary manslaughter for his roommate's Dec. 3 death. He faces up to 11 years in prison when he is sentenced at 11 a.m. by Summit County Common Pleas Judge Mary Margaret Rowlands.
According to police reports and a 911 call, Scheid and Duncan Unternaher were "highly intoxicated" when the quarrel happened. While Scheid attempted to put pressure on the wound, Unternaher fell unconscious. It was unclear whether he passed out because of the wound or because he was intoxicated. The incident was reported by a third roommate in the off-campus apartment.
Unternaher, 23, of Newark, was transported to Summa Akron City Hospital, where he died two days later.
Scheid is free on a $60,000 bond and is under GPS monitoring.
