Troopers with the state Highway Patrol’s Sandusky post is investigating the fatal crash, which occurred at 3 p.m. on Ohio 19, north on Genzman Road.
Ralph T. Davis, 63, of Richwood, was driving a 2005 Lexus LS-340 south when he drove left of the center line, causing an oncoming vehicle to swerve in an attempt to avoid a collision, troopers said. Both vehicles went off the east side of the road, where Davis’ vehicle hit the other one head-on.
The other vehicle, a 2007 Toyota Tacoma driven by Rodney L. Traxler, 66, of Carey, then struck a utility pole. Davis’ vehicle came to rest next to Traxler’s vehicle, troopers said.
Traxler, who was not wearing his seat belt, suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and his body was transported to Walker Funeral Home. The vehicle was removed from the scene by Pat and Sons Towing.
His wife, Lois J. Traxler, 61, of Carey, was the front passenger and she suffered incapacitating injuries. She was transported to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center by Carroll Township EMS. She was wearing her seat belt.
Davis suffered incapacitating injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to Promedica Hospital by Mercy Health LifeFlight. Davis was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. The vehicle was removed from the scene by Greer’s Towing.
Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected as a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
