BERLIN TWP. — Erie County sheriff’s deputies arrested two Collins men and charged them each with domestic violence for an incident taking place at about 3:15 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities arrived within the 13500 block of Ohio 61 East for a disturbance. A neighbor heard doors being slammed and three loud “pop” noises coming from inside the home.

Everyone inside the house initially denied any wrongdoing, according to a police report. Then some people later admitted two people — Phillip Perkins, 28; and Matthew Kieffer, 21 — got into an argument.

One team of deputies spoke with Perkins, who had multiple injuries to his face and arms. He also had dried blood around his mouth and marks on his arms and hands.

Perkins said him and Kieffer got into a fight over a disagreement involving treatment of a woman. “We both hit each other,” Perkins told deputies. “It’s not one way or the other. Neither one of us deserve to go to jail.”

Kieffer told a separate deputy how Perkins was intoxicated and tried helping him. Kieffer stated Perkins pushed a woman and then tried punching him.

Deputies ended up charging Perkins and Kieffer with domestic violence. Kieffer also faces additional offenses for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Both were taken to the Erie County Jail. They later were released.
