A man was flown to a Toledo hospital following a crash Tuesday in Sandusky County.

The Fremont post of the state Highway Patrol is investigating the single-vehicle injury crash, which occurred at 3:45 p.m. on County Road 280, just south of U.S. 6, in Riley Township.

Dana L. Simpson, 57, of Clyde, was driving a 2003 Dodge pickup truck south on County Road 280 when he drove off the right side of the road, troopers said. He then overcorrected the vehicle, which went off the left side of the road, struck a ditch and overturned.

Simpson, who was wearing his seat belt, sustained incapacitating injuries and was taken by ambulance to Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky. From there, he was flown via a LifeFlight medical helicopter to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.

The pickup sustained disabling damage and was towed by Madison’s towing in Fremont.

The investigation is still ongoing. Alcohol is considered to be a factor, troopers said.

Agencies that assisted troopers included the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Department and the Townsend Twp. Fire Department.
