FREMONT — A woman was killed in a head-on crash Saturday afternoon in Sandusky’s County’s Riley Township.

Chastidy R. Babb, 44, of Elmore, was driving a 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle south on County Road 198, just south of Township Road 265, at 4:21 p.m. when she failed to negotiate a curve, said troopers with the Fremont post of the state Highway Patrol.

The bike went off the east side of the road and struck a traffic sign, troopers said. Babb then drove back onto the road and into the middle of the northbound lane, where the motorcycle collided head-on with a 2006 Cadillac SRX being driven by John W. Walker, 88, of Fremont.

Babb, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the motorcycle, which was pushed back off the east side of the road. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Cadillac came to a stop on the east shoulder, north of the crash scene.

Walker, who was wearing his seatbelt, sustained minor injuries. He received treatment at the scene, troopers said.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office, Sandusky County EMS, Ash’s Automotive and Grunden’s Wrecker Service.

The crash remains under investigation, troopers said.
