• Updated Aug 12, 2018 at 9:49 PM

A Norwalk woman is being held in the Huron County Jail after allegedly leaving her young children home alone and then driving while impaired.

At 3:02 p.m. Thursday, Norwalk police pulled over a vehicle near the intersection of Central Boulevard and Saint Mary’s Street.

The driver, Jessica R. Mitchell, 27, of 6 Taylor Ave., was charged with operating a vehicle while impaired (OVI) and driving with a suspended license.

After Mitchell was arrested, she told officers her four young children were left unattended at home, police said. Mitchell then was charged with four counts endangering children and transported to Huron County Jail, where she remained as of Sunday night, unable to post bond.

Police contacted Huron County Children’s Services.
