Young man killed after Jeep lodges under semi

PENFIELD TOWNSHIP — A young man was killed in a crash early this morning after his Jeep got lodged underneath a semi and tanker. 

The Elyria Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the two-vehicle crash, which occurred on Ohio 18 at Foster Road, in Penfield Township, Lorain County at about 2:42 a.m.

Jeffrey Shaw, 22, of Elyria, was driving his 2004 Jeep Cherokee north on Foster Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the Ohio 18 intersection. Shaw T-boned a 2018 Freightliner hauling a tanker trailer, which Randy Hunter, 58, of Wellington, was driving eastbound on 18, troopers said.

Shaw’s vehicle became lodged underneath the tanker trailer. He was pronounced dead at the scene, reports said, however, Hunter was not injured in the crash.

Ohio 18 was closed in both directions for about two hours.

Troopers were assisted by Wellington Fire Department, South Lorain County Ambulance District and Dunlap’s Towing. The crash remains under investigation.
