MILAN TWP. — A Norwalk bicyclist was seriously injured after being hit by a car early Wednesday morning.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office responded to U.S. 250, south of Ohio 13 in Milan after a caller reported a man lying in the road at 1:30 a.m., Chief Deputy Jared Oliver said.

Anthony C. Harkness, 56, of 7 Adams St., was found to have incapacitating injuries after being hit by a passing vehicle while riding his bike down the street.

Harkness, who was completely ejected from the bicycle, was flown by North Central EMS LifeFlight to Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center, where he was still receiving treatment Thursday evening.

Oliver said the vehicle fled the scene after the accident and the department is seeking help from the community in identifying the vehicle or its driver.

“We’re looking for anybody who’s a witness to the accident to please call us,” he said.
