The 8-year-old Norwalk boy was hit by a car in a Concord Court Apartments parking space about 4:30 p.m. The driver, Alyssa Mckenzie, 25, of Norwalk, was attempting to pull out of a parking space.
“He was riding his bike and came out between the two cars and struck the right, front corner panel of the vehicle,” said interim Norwalk Police Chief Mike Conney. “He was fortunate. He hit the side of it and wasn’t hit head-on.”
Conney said the boy only suffered “superficial injuries,” but was transported to Fisher-Titus Medical Center as a precautionary measure.
“When this sort of thing happens, you always want to make sure there’s nothing going on internally,” he added. “But at the time his injuries seemed pretty minor.”
Police said they did not believe the boy was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
“It doesn’t look like he was (wearing a helmet), but really everyone should be wearing helmets,” Conney said. “They definitely do save lives.”
The interim chief said Mckenzie wasn’t charged because of the circumstances.
“When you’re driving through a parking lot even at a reasonable speed, it’s easy for someone to come out between you (and another car) like that,” Conney said.
