Man accused of assaulting woman with hammer

TOLEDO — May A North Toledo man is accused of seriously injuring a woman Monday after hitting her with a hammer.

Thomas Jeffers, 28, of the 1700 block of Walnut Street, is charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony, according to an affidavit filed in Toledo Municipal Court.

During an argument with Ashley Moylan, Mr. Jeffers is accused of hitting Ms. Moylan in the head with a hammer, causing serious physical harm, court documents show.

The incident happened at about 6:38 a.m. at Mr. Jeffer's home,according to the affidavit. Mr. Jeffers called 911 Saturday to report the incident, according to a Toledo police report.

Ms. Moylan, 21, of the 300 block of South Reynolds Road, was transported and treated at Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center, according to a Toledo detective's log. A hospital spokesman said there was no information for a patient listed under that name Tuesday.

Mr. Jeffers was arrested Monday and was booked in the Lucas County jail.

He was arraigned Tuesday in Toledo Municipal Court, where bond was set at $75,000. He was also ordered to have no contact with Ms. Moylan.

Mr. Jeffers will appear for a preliminary hearing June 5.
