A 50-year-old man was killed in an early morning, alcohol-related crash Saturday in Perkins Township.

Kurt A. Fischer, 50, of Sandusky, was driving a 2003 Oldsmobile Bravada north on Columbus Avenue, north of Strub Road, at 12:43 a.m. when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the road, struck a fire hydrant and then continued north, where it hit a utility pole, said troopers with the state Highway Patrol’s Sandusky post.

Fischer, who wore his seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said. His body was taken to Koch Funeral Home in Sandusky.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by Perkins Township police and fire and EMS. Sandusky Towing, the Erie County water department and Ohio Edison.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation, troopers said.
