MARBLEHEAD — An increasing deer population, resulting in extensive damage to plant communities and an increased risk of deer/vehicle accidents has led the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) to coordinate a special archery-only deer hunt for mobility impaired hunters at East Harbor State Park.

The hunt will be hosted in partnership with the Lakeshore Longbeards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF).

Nine hunters will be selected for this hunt on Nov. 11. Selected hunters will be notified by phone and are expected to attend a mandatory pre-hunt meeting at East Harbor State Park on the morning of the Nov. 18 hunt.

Interested mobility impaired applicants should submit a 3-by-5-inch post card with their printed name, complete address and daytime telephone number with the caption “Wheelin’ Sportsman Deer Hunt” to East Harbor State Park, 1169 North Buck Road, Marblehead, Ohio 43440. Only one entry per person; all permits are non-transferable. Postcard entries must be received by 4:30 p.m. Nov. 10.

All Ohio hunting rules and regulations apply to this hunt. Hunters must possess the required hunting license and deer permits, and present them on the day of the hunt.
