Town and Country Garden Club met at the home of Meg Waugh for their September meeting, where John Soisson, Chief of the Norwalk Fire Department spoke to the group about the plans and progress on the new fire station.

He went back to the beginnings of the venture, mentioning all the folks who helped start it and those who pitched in to make it happen, contributing their expertise, equipment, operators and monetary assistance. He said the support of the community for this project has been overwhelming. There were many things done to cut costs and still have a state of the art facility. Construction of the new building will begin in the very near future.

A few months ago, Town and Country had pledged to buy the flagpole for the new station.

A business meeting followed with Dot Herman presiding.

Club members will be doing a community craft project at the Norwalk Public Library at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16. Call the library for reservations.

Members took a special field trip in September to Cedar Point to view the gardens, with lunch at Quaker Steak and Lube prior.

There was detailed discussion about the Oct. 3 Make and Bake auction to be held at the NHS preforming arts center gallery. Assignments were made for help with the various stations and refreshments. Members are busy finalizing their donations for the auction.

Admission and refreshments are free.

The club will participate in the Feed Ohio Program and challenge by the Garden Club of Ohio president. Members are to donate the weight of all the members in food in the next two years to local food banks or other organizations that provide food. This will be a contest among other garden clubs.

Election of officers was held with the following elected: President: Meg Waugh; vice president: Kathy Veith; secretary: Reta Stark; treasurer: Sharlene White; and librarian: Glenda Benner.

The fall Mansfield District meeting and luncheon will be held at the Norwalk Eagles Club Room on Sept. 29. Town and Country members will attend.

Refreshments were served by Judy Emmons, Kathy Veith and Phyllis Zieber.

The next meeting is Oct. 3 with a make and bake auction.
