No clerks in Norwalk

Two N&W Railway clerks in Norwalk didn’t report for work today, according to workers at the office on North Pleasant Street.

The clerks have been working without a contract since January. They are responsible for billings, calling crews and making out train orders.

One of the workmen, who wished not to be identified, said the Norwalk office is responsible for dispatching trains to Huron where iron ore is unloaded from ships. He said three ore boats were scheduled to dock in Huron early today. He said the ore would probably be loaded on the trains, but the trains wouldn’t be dispatched to their destinations.

Passing the gavel

After the installation, Meinke presented each member with a gag gift. Gerber, in turn, gave Meinke a symbolic gavel to remember his stint as Rotary president — the “royal flusher” gavel.
