County eyeing a private home

A joint nursing home venture with Fisher-Titus Memorial Hospital or a contract with a private nursing home operator are the alternatives getting the most consideration by Huron County Commissioners trying to solve the Shady Lane Home dilemma.

A bond issue to finance a new county home is still in the running. However, commissioners have concluded that would be the most expensive of three alternatives.


City man receives PR award

Pat McMaster, 21 North Pleasant Street, received a national award at the annual International Conference of The American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) in Chicago.

McMaster is public relations officer of the North Central Ohio Chapter of APICS. He is the administrative manager of Rotary Printing in Norwalk and is a Junior Achievement adviser and president of the Firelands Foto-Finders Camera Club.


City solider in Germany

Robert W. Pierce is stationed in Germany.
Pierce, who attended Norwalk High School, took basic training at Fort Dix, N.J. He took missile training at Fort Bliss, Texas. Pierce has been assigned as a Hercules Crewman.


Sprowl All-Ohioan Second team

COLUMBUS — The tower of strength for the Firelands Conference co-champion Monroeville Eagles — senior Joe Sprowl — capped his high school career by being named to the United Press International All-Ohio Class A Second Team.

Sprowl, who led the senior-laden Eagles to a 16-2 regular season record and then to the Sectional finals, averaged 22.1 points a game for Coach Harry Garverick’s quintet. Monroeville shared the Firelands Conference Title with Norwalk St. Paul.


Winemiller named to NOL first team

Willard forward Roger Winemmiller was the only AA player chosen for the Northern Ohio League first team in basketball this year.

Norwalk’s Ed Arlin and Willard’s Brian Bevier were second team picks while Trucker  junior Dave Schurz won honorable mention.
